Before You Write

There are a few things you need to do before you can start blogging. First of all, your going to need to know what site you want to use. I use Blogger because I trust them. Now there are only two sites I recommend you use, Wordpress, or Blogger. Both are a very easy to use site. Now the only reason i stuck with blogger is because they are reliable. I have used Wordpress before but I have had some rough times with them. My account was suspended and I lost loads of articles that i wrote. I liked all the extra tools that Wordpress had but Blogger isn't any worse. So your going to have to choose on your own.

Now that we got past that part, this part is tougher. I highly recommend that you write out your blog plan on paper or something like Word Document. I know it's not fun and you did this in school when you were a kid. Ya I hated doing rough drafts too. But I'm telling you that it will be ten times better then just coming up with information as you go. Thats what makes blogs look sloppy and not well put together.

Think of a topic that will interest loads of people, but most important something that interests you. I will tell you now that just because you see someones blog that is making tons of money doesn't mean you have to do the same topic. In most cases someone will write about things they don't know about and people wont read your articles because they are accurate information. Just write about something that you love and you will have fun while making money at the same time. I will explain more about this in the content part of this blog.

Plan Plan and Plan before you start writing. The best advice I can give you is to read other peoples articles about your subject and learn more about it. This will give you more experience in your topic and it will better show you an idea of how to write your blog.

Content

This is the most important part of the blog. The content of the blog has to be something the reader wants to know about. If it isn't good content then the rest of your blog sucks. You don't even have to be a great writer to write good content. If it's useful information then people will like it. You want your information to be right to the point, so people can find what they are looking for, or else your blog might be boring. For an example don't make a blog any longer then it should be.

Now the length is important. Lots of people will want their blog to be very short and have many articles. While others like their blog to be long and only have a few articles. However you will be the one to choose, just make sure the information is correct and helpful.

Make sure your blog is very creative as in the theme and colors. Your going to want it to be attractive for readers to come back for more. Plan it out and have fun mixing different colors together to see what they look like. Remember, writing a blog is supposed to be fun and rewarding, of course the rewarding part doesn't come until the end of the hard work. It's kind of like eating dinner and the good stuff doesn't come until desert.

Traffic Traffic and More Traffic

Traffic is the most important thing when making a site or a blog. Without traffic you get no readers, and without readers you get no money. When starting out, I know its tough but you really need to give it time. Your blog won't make money overnight. It takes months to start earning money from your blog. No traffic to your blog is like no one coming to watch your school play. You did all that hard work for nothing, and you get jack squat. I really cant express how important traffic is.

Well one question you can ask yourself right away is, "where can i get traffic?" There are a many ways to get traffic to your blog. But not all of them are free. Trust me, if your blog is good then there is no need to buy traffic for your blog. Thats the last resort you want to go to. If you can get free everything then life is set, am i not right? But it isn't. I can help you get free traffic at the most.

The Easiest way to get traffic would be to submit your site to all the top search engines. Since your doing this for free, your site doesn't show up in the search engines for 2-8 weeks. But thats alright because it gives you time to write more articles. It's the most efficient way for free. I mean, it doesn't even take that much effort. Simply just type your URL and submit. But I made it really easy for you. Heres a site where it submits your URL to 148 search engines. Ya life is good

I would say that word of mouth is pretty good since it's simple and takes seconds. Tell your friends and family about it. Even tell your work associates. That way you can get away from your computer and think about what to write about next.

Another good traffic builder would be to comment on other peoples articles about the same subject. Don't just say "nice blog" or "good article", actually tell them why it's a good article. Then simply leave your URL at the bottom and say "visit my blog sometime". If you really want to accumulate more hits to your blog, then ask to link each others blog. This way when readers go to his blog and see your link they might click on it since it's about that same subject. It's a win win situation.

Look around, search Google, get new ideas for your blog. The better the blog, the more traffic. It's very crucial you do this to make money blogging.

Earn Revenue From Your Blog

Like i said earlier, yes you can make money blogging, it just takes hard work and motivation. And I know your getting tired of me saying that without traffic you won't make money. Well thats true and it's a good idea to get traffic before you worry about making money off your blog. Trust me, you have plenty of time to make money and like I said earlier, if you don't have patients then you shouldn't be writing in the first place. If your interested in any of these ideas just simply click on the highlighted red words.

Google AdSense - This is the best way to make money from your blog. This is simply a pay-per-click advertisement that Google puts on your site. Later in the article I will show you where to put the ads on your blog for better results, but for now I will explain what AdSense is. What I really like about Google AdSense is that you can choose the ads you want to be displayed on your blog and where you want them so they don't clutter your content. You can create channels so advertisers will know what ads to place on your site. For an example, lets say your site is about puppies for sale. You create channels that mention something about puppies for sale and Google will place ads on your site about puppies for sale. It's that easy. So the big deal here is, if someone can't find what they are looking for on your blog, then they will click on your AdSense ads and you get payed for it. Depending on your CTR (click through rate) that will be how much you get payed. It usually ranges anywhere from 1 cent - $70 per click.

Adbrite - This is a great way to make money off your blog once you reach an amount of visitors per month. I would say around 10,000 a month is a good start. Adbrite is a company that allows you to sell ad space on your blog to other company's. And Prices will range high and low depending on how many visitors you get and how much the advertiser is willing to pay. Usually you will charge them for creating ad and then a charge for each month to keep it up. But I recommend you don't put ad space up until someone ask to advertise on your site. It doesn't look professional until you have a few advertisers. They will get a hold of you don't worry. Give it time and they will come to you.

Donations - First of all your going to want to sign up for paypal. Just click the red highlighted word "donations" to go to the site. Anyway, paypal is growing very quickly and 9 out of 10 people use it for payments now. Once your blog gets to the point where people are inspired by it, lots of people will be very generous. You might be thinking, why would someone donate to my blog. Well you probably helped them succeed also so they want to repay the person who motivated them. But this is another win win situation

Will Ads Hurt My Traffic?

This is a common mistake made by many people. No, ads will not hurt your traffic unless you place them on every single spot on your blog. I mean its good to have ads but not so many where reading the content is hard. Placing ads in the right spots will actually improve traffic to your blog. I Will show you the right places in the next post, please read on.

From my experiences, Ads have not made a difference in my traffic in all the years i have blogged. To be honest I think I have had only 1 or 2 people comment on me having to many ads. That doesn't bother me at all, in fact I kinda chuckled a little when I saw the comments because everyone around them gave me good comments on my blogs. Anyway, you cant please everyone, and a few readers that dislike your blog wont hurt you. You will get many readers that dislike and like your blog. It's a part of life.

Most Bloggers are mature enough to know that when they see ads they know your trying to make some money like every other blogger alive. Trust me on this one, every blogger knows. But I am very lucky for my audience to like me and to understand I'm working hard to help people. If you write your heart out people will complement you, just give it time.

Ad Placement

This is the toughest part to talk about really because everyone is different. Lets start out with the size and types of ads to use. Now I'm not an expert in this part of blogging, but i do have experience. I know what works and what doesn't. If you go ahead and look at this blog i have two types of ads. Link units, and Ad units. I prefer Ad units because really it sticks out a lot more and thats what has brought me the most money. Please take a minuet to look at the diagram below.

The best place on any blog would be to place an ad on the very top before your first post. It's been most efficient for me and will be for almost anyone. Now both sides where your information is will be a good idea too. If you look at my blog here you can see where i put my ads. And these are the places where i usually put them. The main reason why people place their ads in between the content is because people will mistaken the ads for content and click on them. So it's a trick. But if it works for you good. The real places you want to avoid would be somewhere where people wont see them. You don't have to put ads away from content because people might not like them there. Please make them noticeable. Don't get to carried away though.

I hope this article helped everyone out and to encourage you to blog. I like to think of blogging as a hobby more than a job. It feels great to just write about something you know about and to help other people out. And in the end hopefully you will be rewarded. I had a fun time writing this article in particular. Thanks for reading.

Motivation

You need plenty of this and also love for what you do. I know a lot of people blog for the money, I mean whats there to not like about it. But I really think money comes second when I write. I mean yeah it's nice but i like the thrill of writing. It's what I love doing. I like to think of money being the frosting on the cupcake, and the thrill being whats under the frosting, The actual Cupcake itself. If your not having fun writing then I don't really think blogging is for you. But I hope everyone enjoyed this article and got some good information out of it. Thanks for being very supportive and caring. Also check out some of my other blogs if you enjoyed this one.
